Belar's Days

Belar's Days

Every May, the traditional Belar's days take place in the form of animated orienteering hikes along the Soča Trail. They are aimed at primary school pupils in the Julian Alps Biosphere Area and groups of children from the national and nature parks of neighbouring Austria, Italy and Croatia.

They follow the Soča Trail, the oldest nature trail in the Triglav National Park in Trenta. During the orientation hike, participants visit several educational points where they learn about the nature and cultural heritage of Trenta in a professional and interesting way. They also visit the Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden in Trenta, which is managed by Slovenia's oldest cultural and scientific institution, the Natural History Museum of Slovenia.

From learning about the animal world of the Soča River, encountering the colours and scents of mountain flowers in the Julijana Botanical Garden, through Kugy's reflections on the beauty of the Julian Alps, guiding and mountaineering, past and present artistic expression in the mountains, the way of life of the Trentas residents, to discovering the vibrant nature of an otherwise inanimate part of the national park area (rocks, fossils, soils, climate, water...).

Albin Belar

Belar Days are organised by the Triglav National Park and always coincide with European Parks Day; on 24 May 1909, the first nine national parks in Europe were established in Sweden, marking the beginning of more intensive nature conservation in Europe.

Belar Days are named after the naturalist, seismologist and initiator of the Triglav National Park, Albin Belar.
