Upper and Lower Martuljek Waterfall

Upper and Lower Martuljek Waterfall

The stream under Špik mountain

Above the village of Gozd Martuljek, in the embrace of the Špik mountain peak, two Martuljek waterfalls roar out of the rock.

The Martuljek stream, over steep slopes and cliffs, travels a total of 500 metres above sea level in a highly variable gradient.

The Upper Martuljek Waterfall descends in three stages over a vertical wall of 110 meters. The path to it is relatively easy, but to reach directly beneath the waterfall, one must climb a very demanding section, secured with wedges and wire ropes. The stream continues its journey over the Jasenje mountain and, as the Lower Martuljek Waterfall, falls over a 50-meter-high cliff into a 400-meter-long, narrow gorge shaped in limestone – the Martuljek Gorge.

Are you curious about who created the Martuljek Gorge? A giant, of course! You can find the legend of the giant Ledenec
