The legend of the Devil's Bridge

The legend of the Devil's Bridge

The devil got a dog's soul instead of a human's

The locals wanted to build a bridge across the Mostnica stream. They built a bridge - every day, from morning till evening.

But every night the bridge was demolished and they had to start all over again. One day, one of the locals got fed up and shouted that the devil should build a bridge if they couldn't!

The devil did start work, but in exchange for a solid bridge, he demanded the first soul to cross it. Of course, the people didn't want to sacrifice someone, so one of the peasants came up with the idea of giving the devil a dog's soul. He threw a calf bone across the bridge and the dog jumped in after it. That's how the devil got the dog's soul. But the devil was terribly angry. He wagged his tail in anger and knocked down the whole fence.
