Winter alpinism

Mountains in winter

Hiking in the hills and mountains in the summer is nothing unusual. However, in winter, the mountains are not exactly accessible to everyone due to numerous dangers.
As with all sports and recreational activities, WINTER ALPINISM requires a lot of knowledge, experience, appropriate equipment for the conditions, good physical fitness, and a large dose of common sense.

What is winter alpinism?

Alpinism is the ascent to high peaks via unprotected, unmarked routes.

Winter alpinism includes climbing snow-ice and mixed routes, ice climbing, alpine skiing, and snowboarding.

Partially included are also backcountry skiing and approaches to peaks in winter.

For such exploits, appropriate mountaineering equipment is essential; therefore, items like ice axes, crampons, snowshoes, shovels, and safety ropes are usually a must.

Mountains can be very dangerous both in summer and in winter, due to carelessness, negligence, or other circumstances.

Safety first!

Many, even experienced mountaineers, have lost their lives in the heart of the mountains.

The greatest danger in winter comes from avalanches, which are most common after fresh snowfall. Weather is generally one of the factors that mountaineers always consider before heading into the mountains.
