Alpine meadows in the Triglav National Park

Alpine meadows in the Triglav National Park

Habitats in Triglav National Park

Alpine meadows are very colourful. In spring, the first to bloom are the alpine snowbells, which peek out from among the snowflakes.

Following this, a floral spectacle unfolds, showcasing a beautiful array of alpine plant representatives. Gentians, edelweiss, and many others create an incredible palette of colors.

Alpine meadows are also home to many animal species.

In damp weather, the alpine salamander is often found in meadows above the tree line. In sunny meadows, our largest butterfly, the Apollo, flutters around.

Meadows are home to many marmot burrows. Also living here are the mountain hare, rock ptarmigan, and the largest inhabitants of the high mountains – the chamois and the ibex.
