Juliana trail hiking route

Juliana trail hiking route

Put on your hiking boots and explore the treasure trove of natural beauty of the Julian Alps

Long-distance trails lead over mountain peaks, through valleys, and all the way to the sea. One of them is the Julian Trail, which circles around our highest mountain, Triglav, in 16 stages, allowing you to observe this majestic mountain from all sides while exploring the history and natural wealth along the way.

The Juliana trail is a circular route of 267 kilometres divided into 16 stages. The circular route starts and ends in Kranjska Gora. The trail runs along the foothills of the Julian Alps and connects valleys with towns, solitary plateaus, mountain passes, hidden paths and uninhabited and sparsely populated places. It winds along the banks of the Soča, Sava, Bača, and Tolminka rivers, past lakes and waterfalls, through majestic forests and by some exceptional trees, across colorful meadows, and over unusual rocks. The trail offers unique views that will take your breath away.

The Juliana Trail mostly runs on Slovenian territory. It also connects Slovenia with neighbouring Italy, as part of the route passes by Lake Predil all the way to Tarvisio.

On the trail that runs along the foothills of Triglav National Park, we observe the differences between the regions. We notice variations in cultural heritage and the ways in which the locals have adapted to the environment in which they live.

You will spend approximately 85 hours for the entire trail.
You won't climb any mountain peaks on the Juliana Trail. But you will explore and admire the richness of nature on foot.
