Juliana Trail hiking route

Juliana Trail hiking route

Put on your hiking boots and explore the treasure trove of natural beauty of the Julian Alps

Long-distance routes take you over mountain peaks, through valleys and all the way to the sea. One of them is the Juliana Trail. In 16 stages, it circles Triglav, which you can observe from all sides while exploring the history and natural wealth along the way.

The Juliana Trail is a circular route of 267 kilometres divided into 16 stages. The circular route starts and ends in Kranjska Gora. The trail runs along the foothills of the Julian Alps and connects valleys with towns, lonely plateaus, passes, hidden paths and uninhabited and sparsely populated places. It winds along the banks of the Soča, Sava, Bača and Tolminka rivers, past lakes and waterfalls, through mighty forests and past some extraordinary trees, through colourful meadows and over unusual rocks. It offers unique views that take your breath away.

The Juliana Trail mostly runs on Slovenian territory. It also connects Slovenia with neighbouring Italy, as part of the route passes by Lake Rabelj all the way to Trbiz.

Along the route through the foothills of the Triglav National Park, you can see how different the regions are from one another. We see the differences in cultural heritage and the ways in which the local people have adapted differently to their environment.

The whole journey will take approximately 85 hours.
You won't climb any mountain peaks on the Juliana Trail. But you will explore and admire the richness of nature on foot.
